Coolsculpting and Liposuction: Methods of Fat Removal

If you maintain a healthy diet and participate in a regular exercise program, these are the best ways to achieve weight loss. Yet in spite of our best efforts, looking towards plastic surgery to remove excess fat is a desirable option. In this case, we typically have two options, either electing for liposuction or a relatively newer procedure called CoolSculpting. Both processes have their benefits and drawbacks. Therefore it is ultimately up to you to decide which method will be best. What are the differences between coolsculpting and liposuction?
Read on more to discover the differences and similarities.
What is Liposuction?
Liposuction is a fairly routine cosmetic procedure that is aimed at removing fatty deposits from trouble areas in the body. Most common treatment areas are the stomach, thighs, and waist. It has been around for more than three decades, and there are a few different versions of it. Suction Assisted Lipectomy or SAL is the most common liposuction. This involves utilizing suction on an area of the body, and it is the method from which the procedure gets its name. There are other techniques available too, which use lasers or even sound waves to break up the fatty deposits.
Liposuction And Weight Loss
You can’t lose weight with liposuction. It is only meant to troubleshoot problem areas of the body. Ideally, it is best for people who maintain a healthy lifestyle and reasonable BMI, but simply have areas where they are unable to lose areas of fat.
Liposuction is a surgical procedure. This means you will need to take general anesthesia. This can carry risks in and of itself. After the procedure, there is often some amount of swelling and physical discomfort present. This means you will need to wear a  compression garment around the treated area for a few weeks.
What is CoolSculpting?
With CoolSculpting, a doctor freezes stubborn fat cells. A doctor doesn’t use suction but uses extreme cold. This is applied to a target area. These cold temperatures freeze and destroy fat cells. As a result, they are eliminated on their own over a few months of time.

Cool Sculpting And Weight Loss

Like liposuction,  you can’t lose weight with CoolSculpting. You must be in relatively good health to undergo the procedure. Hence, there are certain health conditions that will disqualify you from participating.
Unlike liposuction, CoolSculpting treatments are non-invasive. It is not a surgical procedure. As a result, you will not take anesthesia. This will reduce the likelihood of any potential complications.  You may feel discomfort during the procedure.  It is usually mild tugging or stinging sensations coupled with an intense feeling of cold. Generally, these feelings are so minimal that you are able to carry on a conversation, play a game on your phone or otherwise do whatever you want while being treated.  Afterwards, you receive a quick massage to help break up the now-frozen fat cells, and you’ll be on your way out the door!
So Which is Better?
When considering liposuction vs CoolSculpting, it really comes down to what you are looking for. Liposuction has existed for a long time.  Because of this, some people feel more comfortable.  While both provide you with good results, CoolSculpting is also far less invasive, has fewer complications and risks and a much shorter recovery period. Usually, you can achieve the desired results with one liposuction session. However,  CoolSculpting might require multiple visits to effectively treat stubborn areas, which can also add up in expenses.
