The Mental Change That Comes With Cosmetic Surgery

Why do patients choose to receive surgical procedures? What, aside from the physical change, comes with receiving plastic surgery?

The views of plastic surgery and cosmetic surgery differ in every part of the world. Many times, the distinct difference lies in money and social status. However, in South Korea, surgical procedures hold a different connotation. When a person lives in a society that highly values physical beauty it can be hard to live comfortably.

Of course, every person has something to offer the world, but sometimes the way they look will hinder their ability to communicate with the world. The mental change becomes increasingly negative for people that deal with these issues. Patients once believed they couldn’t change their physical features; however, we can give our patients the option to enhance their current physical situations.

What If A Patient’s Age Is Starting To Show?

At our clinic, we have many options that can help a patient achieve their once youthful past. From facial contouring procedures to anti-aging procedures, we allow our patients to explore our extensive repertoire to choose what fits best. With our years of experience and many amazing specialists, we help to guide our patients to what fits best.

Our anti-aging procedures include everything from facelifts to stem cell therapy. Our materials range from synthetic Elasticum to FDA approved Endotine. Both materials are used to generate discreet facelifts.

The best factor of both materials is that they assimilate into the tissue and become one with the skin. While elasticum integrates completely, the endotine will eventually disintegrate after the droopy skin is taken care of.

What If A Patient Has Needs Help Losing Fat After Major Weight Loss?

The journey to a healthy lifestyle is hard and long. Exercise, diet, and a positive mental capacity all help a patient toward major weight loss. Once a patient achieves the goal of major weight loss, they must also deal with the obstacles that come afterward. One of those obstacles is stubborn amounts of fat issue.

These small pockets of fat make the body look awkward, especially after a patient's body undergoes such a large physical change. To get rid of this fat tissue, our patients have the option of undergoing body contouring procedures. They can choose from the following procedures:

  • Whole-body liposuction
  • Localized liposuction
  • Dual slim procedure

Patients can choose to undergo one or more to attain the result of a natural, aesthetically pleasing body.

How Can These Procedures Help To Create A Well Balanced Mentality?

A person that has trouble feeling confident within themselves will have trouble feeling confident in any area of life. Confidence is a large mental change that affects all areas of life. The situations vary from patient to patient, but the results are normally the same. All our patients want is to be happy and successful.

Perhaps a mother is trying to come back from having children and she needs help with her weight loss journey. Or an older woman wants to rid herself of wrinkles and droopy skin, so she can look like her younger self. These situations and more can greatly affect the mental changes a person goes through.

A part of our job is to take those mental changes into account. We want our patients to be proud of the results and learn to love every part of themselves.

In Conclusion

The usual connotation of plastic surgery is generally negative. Yet the results produce such a positive mental change that our patients go on to lead happy, fulfilling lives. With so many successful procedures, we have absolute proof that plastic surgery is a positive experience.

How The Cheekbones Shape The Face

How can we put so much importance into one part of the face? Whether it’s through makeup or surgical procedures, the cheekbones hold a lot of shape for the face.

History shows that most first impressions are made by visual opinionWe take a glance at a person and already have an ‘idea’ as to who that person may be. We do this by judging the overall appearance, and more specifically the face. Each facial feature holds certain details, and the cheekbones are no different.

With so much to take into account, the cheekbones become important starting points for the focal features of the face. The chin, the eyes, and the nose are what people look at first, however, the cheekbones help to amplify these areas.

At Banobagi we have multiple options for patients that want to enhance their cheekbones. However, we will talk about one procedure: zygomatic reconstruction.

Why Do Cheekbones Need Any Type Of Enhancement?

In recent years, the cheekbones have become an area of interest for cosmetic surgery and plastic surgery. Cosmetic surgeons have become popular through the use of fillers to create high cheekbones.

Beauty culture dictates the necessary height of cheekbones by highlighting the highest points, usually through makeup, so that the rest of the face can appear younger and more active. By lifting the cheekbones, it also gives the illusion of a slender face.

Not to mention the toll that time takes on the skin. Skin will sag, lose its elasticity, and pull at the rest of the face in an unpleasing matter. When this happens even a zygomatic reconstruction won’t be helpful. To make the skin look aesthetically pleasing our clinic uses two materials:

1. Endotine: An FDA-approved material with bio affinity. It puts pressure on the skin and smoothly tightens the skin. This allows for an even and discreet facelift.

2. Elasticum: a synthetic material that naturally blends with the surrounding tissue, eventually becoming a ligament. The material helps to reverse drooping skin and create natural longevity.

Of course, these materials come into play during the surgical procedure.

Zygomatic Reconstruction For Better Cheekbones

Zygomatic reconstruction, also known as cheekbone reconstruction, is a technical reconstruction and relocation of the cheekbones. Our specialists identify all the variables of the zygomatic area and use materials that are stern, fixed, and strong enough to hold the area together.

The goal of the procedure is to take the cheekbone and relocate it to an ideal area for the patient. To do this the specialists must work on both cheekbones simultaneously. After the relocation is complete the reconstruction part starts. Our specialists use a fixture technique that takes temporal muscle force inside the zygomatic complex into account. With this technique, our patients’ cheekbones are secure and safe for future recovery time.

With the fixture technique, the body will be prone to heal naturally, as if the cheekbones are suffering a common fracture. Once the healing process is complete, the patient’s cheekbones will not only look better, they will further enhance the rest of the facial features.

In Conclusion

While cheekbones are not a main focal point, they are certainly important to the face overall. They are responsible for aesthetically enhancing the rest of the face and putting a cherry on top of a naturally beautiful face. We don’t only focus on what is considered important, we take all details into account. Our goal is to improve the big picture.

BANOBAGI PLASTIC SURGERY CLINIC

Introduction of BANO robot system capable of automatic body temperature diagnosis

Untact body temperature check available

Banobagi Plastic Surgery Clinic announced on the 5th of August, 2020 that it has introduced a self-body temperature checking robot ‘BANO’ which is AI to prevent the spread of Covid19.

BANO has functions of self-body temperature check, monitoring, and automatic hand sanitizer spray.

Bano, which recognizes a person at the clinic entrance, moves in front of the person and checks for fever. As a result of the fever check, high-risky persons with a body temperature of 37.5°C or higher are automatically warned with a sound and not allowed to enter the clinic.

In particular, a visitor who are suspected as covid19 infection can check the location of the screening clinic through Bano and can make a video call with the person in charge of prevention of the pandemic. Information of the suspected infectee is also transmitted to the person in real time, enabling control and monitoring.

Banobagi Plastic Surgery Clinic has introduced this new AI service to protect the safety of visitors and medical staff from the covid19 spread. Bano has been supporting rapid communication and response for the growing need of untact diagnosis.

Bano also serves as an employee of our clinic. Inside the clinic, Bano is helping visitors to easily check the information they need, such as treatment subjects and promotions. In addition, by providing chatbot functions using various platforms such as PC and mobile, reservations and consultations are made easier and faster.

In particular, by responding to customer inquiries and requests 24/7, it is contributing to the improvement of customer satisfaction both inside and outside the clinic, such as solving the curiosity of visitors in real time and reducing the labor of staff.

Ban Jae-sang, one of the head surgeons at  Banobagi Plastic Surgery Clinic, said, “With the prolonged covid19 outbreak, we have prepared a higher level of pandemic prevention and medical services in addition to the regular sterilization in the clinic. Through the AI ‘Bano’ which diagnoses fever and assists our patients, we will do our best to prevent the safety of visitors and our medical staff and furthermore also provide better medical services simultaneously."

The Gangnam District: A Brief History Lesson

What is the history behind the popular Gangnam District? Why do so many businesses and celebrities choose to reside there?

How did the Gangnam District come to be so popular? When visiting South Korea, any foreign person will hear a lot about the Gangnam District. Aside from its astronomical popularity, it is home to one of South Korea’s biggest financial influencers: plastic surgery clinics.

This is where our clinic, the Banobagi Plastic Surgery Clinic, is located. An integral part of South Korea, this area is what we can equate to the Beverly Hills of South Korea.

With all types of clients and businesses that reside within the district, it makes sense that Gangnam is an expensive place to be. With customers comes demand and demand must be met. How did the Gangnam District receive its reputable reputation? Where did it all start?

Let’s take a look into the history of the most popular district in South Korea?

Where Did The Gangnam District Start?

About 40 years ago, contemporary Gangnam District would be unrecognizable.  What is now a thriving metropolitan district was originally farmland. The buildings and businesses were practically non-existent, and the only inhabitants were farmers or locals that worked the land.

In place of the modern apartment complexes and thriving businesses were villages, cabbage patches, and pear orchards. A simple life that many locals lived for generations.

With such humble beginnings, it makes a person wonder: What changes created the Gangnam District we know today? The following factors are what helped to create a new Gangnam District and each factor is interwoven with the next:

  • Population
  • Need for real estate
  • Business expansion
  • Local government decrees

With a rising population comes a demand for more supplies. With a demand for more comes a need for space. The farmland of Gangnam became the perfect real estate for businesses that were looking to expand rapidly.

Urban planning started and the rest is history. But let’s not get too ahead of ourselves. The next obstacle would be; how would these businesses get to Gangnam? Followed by a more important question.

Why Did Businesses Move From Prime Metropolitan Area To Rustic Farmlands?

From 1969 to 1970, two ways of transport were installed for easier access to the district: the Hannam Bridge and the Gyeongbu Expressway. With easier ways to get to the district came a rapid urban development and industrial revolution of the area. Alongside rapid population increase, many residents had no choice but to move further south and call the Gangnam District home.

With rapid expansion comes a larger issue: lack of space. This led to a huge change in 1972. The local government banned the construction notion of new real estate within the Northern area. Many business seekers rushed to Gangnam not only for the open space but also for the lack of regulations and taxes.

Since the southern area’s primary, workers were farmers, the local government didn’t have tax and regulations rules put in place.

Without having to worry about local boundaries, came the beginning of the Gangnam District we know today. With new nightclubs and party areas popping up overnight. Gangnam quickly became known as a hot spot for the nightlife crowd. Expansion did not stop at the entertainment business. Long term goals were placed and Gangnam became the next cash cow.

The Han River Bridge

What Else Expands Into The Coveted Area?

Within the next couple of years, many prestigious schools moved their campuses to the district because of the local government’s decree to end new building reconstruction. This hindered plans for campus expansion for many schools. The permanent move and expansion of so many prestigious schools- coupled with the ever-expanding population – influenced many private institutions and tutoring businesses to follow their lead.

By the late 1970s, the population excelled so quick that apartment complexes came overnight. Once again upping the supply and demand pattern. During the 1980’s many germane facilities, such as the Seoul Arts Center and Korea Trade Center, also found a home within Gangnam. With the added expansion of districts such as Gaepo, it became an official metropolitan area full of business, culture, and revenue.

Urban expansion is what continues to make the Gangnam District expand and remain a popular place for all to come to.

What Is It Like Today?

Let’s come back to the present and discuss what makes the Gangnam District popular today. Entertainment businesses are a dime a dozen in this area and they will continue to be a consistent revenue for the area.

Since this area is similar to Beverly Hills, CA it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility to see many of Korea’s celebrities and K-Pop idols living large in the Gangnam District.

This is the area that many famous entertainment agencies work out of and this is where many K-Pop idols train and live. Don’t be surprised if you see a flock of fans waiting for their favorite idols outside.

We have much to thank the entertainment business for; specifically K-Pop idols. Due to their constant and positive exposure to the rest of the world, also known as the Hallyu Wave, businesses within South Korea are thriving.

However, another type of consistent revenue continues to build a reputable reputation in the Gangnam District: plastic surgery clinics.

How Do Plastic Surgery Clinics Thrive Within The Gangnam District?

Within Gangnam District are smaller districts that are known for particular businesses. Cheongdam-dong and Apgujeong-dong are home to over 500 clinics and almost one million procedures are performed yearly.

Multiple studies show that 50% of young adult South Korean women have received plastic surgery and that international patients also make up a large part of South Korea’s revenue. Out of the 450,000 (and more) medical tourists, 22% came to South Korea for plastic surgery, with many of the international patients coming from China.

With high success rates and very happy patient reviews, the government is looking to continue expanding the clinics giving more options to local patients and international patients. One of the greatest aspects of South Korean plastic surgery clinics is the financial involvement of the government. Most clinics, hospitals, and medical businesses receive government funding, which means they have the most up to date machines and specialists.

In Conclusion

Similar to any surgical procedure, attention to detail and patience is necessary for success. While our contemporary Gangnam District is a thriving metropolis now, it only became this way through 40 plus years of constant expansion. Without this expansion Banobagi Plastic Surgery Clinic would not exist, so we have much to be thankful for.

To thrive within the Gangnam District is a privilege. We are very happy to say that we are forever a part of the history of the Gangnam District.

5 Questions To Ask Your Specialist

A curious mindset is the best mindset to have when entering a consultation with a specialist.

The choice to go through a procedure is huge and requires a lot of work beforehand. An important part of any procedure is the consultations. Consultations are the in-depth meetings between a patient and their chosen specialist. This meeting allows our specialist to ‘see’ our patients from every perspective and advise the best plan of action in the future.

The best way for our specialists to work is meeting face to face, not only to see what they will be working with but also to establish that necessary trust between a patient and specialist. A consultation is for more than our specialists. Consultations are also to put our patients at ease.

We want our patients to be fully aware of everything. We want them to ask every question and receive every answer, so that they proceed with an open mind. They are mandatory and done more than once if a patient needs it. Below are five good questions to ask your specialist during a consultation.

1. What Procedure Is Right For Me?

At Banobagi Plastic Surgery Clinic, we perform over 10, 000 procedures. With our arsenal of amazing specialists and all that experience, we can work through all the necessary parts of our patient and figure out what is right for you.

Every patient has a unique body structure, and we need to figure out which procedure adheres to your body. Yes, we take in all that our patient wants, however, we make it obvious to our patients that there is not one proper way to arrive to that destination.

For example, one patient could have the perfect facial contour, from the chin to the cheekbones to the forehead. But the nose of the patient is lacking the right type of definition for the rest of the face. This means the patient can be the right candidate for a rhinoplasty, also known as a nose job.

Perhaps another patient needs a rhinoplasty and after that procedure, they need to round out their face for a fuller more youthful look. This includes more than one procedure for a patient to have. It is all very personal to each patient. We may not know until we have the patient in front of us.

2. Will It Be Painful To Have A Surgical Procedure Done?

During any procedure, our specialists will use anesthesia so that our patients are comfortable and do not feel anything during the procedure. Some procedures can take as short a time as 30 minutes or an hour and 30 minutes or even longer. Within that time, our patient will not feel pain during the procedure. In some cases, our specialist will use general anesthesia.

Of course, postoperative healing is another story. While some ‘growing pains’ are involved, the healing process is necessary and must be done correctly. We have a line of rapid recovery products and prescriptions that specifically target bruising, swelling, and skincare recovery.

Any procedure we do has specific aftercare that we teach to our patients. This will alleviate any pain brought on by the procedure and help create great results. Pain is not completely unavoidable, however, it can be lessened and not experienced for too long a period.

3. Which Specialist Is Right For The Job?

We currently have over 15 specialists and we have over 20 different procedures. To work within our staff, our specialists must continue to educate themselves and have a success rate that is unparalleled. With that being said, we have a specialist for every type of procedure.

Once we can consult with our patients and figure out what they will undergo, we then match them to the best specialist for them. Every specialist must be board certified within their specialized field. It is understandable that any patient does not want to be the first for any specialist.

Our patients also have the option to ask for before and after photos and inquire about the number of procedures a specialist has performed. Our patients should never feel that they can’t learn more about their specialists.

4. How Does One Prepare For The Procedure?

Preparation for a procedure is key. For our patients, this means keeping in touch with their specialist and following any preoperative instructions given to them. Aside from physical preparation, mental preparation is just as important. Perhaps, more important depending the circumstances. Feeling ready for a step-in life is the hardest form of preparation.

This is why asking questions is extremely important. We want our patients to feel comfortable with us. We understand that myths surrounding surgical procedures are negative and generally discouraging; however, those myths are simply untrue. To prepare our patients, we need to give them the correct information and keep them as informed as possible. This is why it is also important for patients to be curious about their procedures.

Patients should not feel that they can’t ask questions. The more questions our patients ask, the more answers we can give, and the more prepared our patients will be. The consultation between our specialists and our patients is probably the most important part of preparation. That is where all communication happens, and every aspect of the procedure is discussed.

5. What If I Do Not Like My Results?

If a patient is not happy with their results, we are happy to help fix the issue. We also offer revision surgery at Banobagi and we make sure that any previous mistakes are taken care of. However, we also advise our patients to wait for the right amount of time before making a decision.

Every procedure needs recovery time. Not only will our patients need to wait for the 30 to 60 days for full results; they will need to take proper care of themselves. We always want to make sure our patients are seeing the true results before they make a decision. This means that they can contact us at any time to be sure their recovery is going along well.

In Conclusion

Never be afraid to ask every question that comes to mind. A consultation is meant to expose every part of the procedure and show that our specialists are more than ready to help our patients take the next step. The questions above are not the only ones a patient can ask.

Whatever comes to mind, bring it up and do not feel embarrassed to do so. This field will never run out of topics to talk about. Better yet, set up a consultation so that our specialists can answer all the questions you may have.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Blepharoplasty Revision Surgery

Sometimes eye surgeries do not always go as planned. When mistakes happen, how do we fix them? How do we rectify a patient’s worries and anxieties?

Botched procedures happen daily, and we work to rectify those procedures and the confidence level of our patients. Plastic and cosmetic surgery is a positive experience, so when a patient feels the opposite way, we work to bring them back to that positive mindset. Cosmetic procedures done to the eyes are the most common, which is why blepharoplasty is necessary revision surgery.

Revision surgery can be the second chance a patient needs. With this in mind, let’s start with a simple question.

What is Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty is a revision surgery specific to the eyes. A patient could need revision surgery for many reasons. Perhaps they are not happy with the results of a previous procedure, they experienced a trauma that has left their eyes in an unpleasing state, or maybe a patient has experienced all the above.
Every situation is very personal and is treatable with the right attention to detail. Here at Banobagi, we pride ourselves in attention to detail; so much so that our specialists also call themselves Detailists. We have gone over general reasons that a patient can qualify for a blepharoplasty, so now let us dive a little deeper.

Why Does Revision Surgery Seem Negative?

Revision surgery generally has a negative stigma. Many times, patients believe that if the first procedure did not work out, why would a second procedure work. Also, patients worry that the second procedure will further damage their bodies.
The best way to answer this stigma is by proving it wrong. An action Banobagi specialists are doing every day. Cosmetic procedures are usually the most botched procedures.

What Should A Patient Know When Considering A Blepharoplasty?

Eyes are a huge staple in South Korean beauty standards. The eyes hold all basic emotions that go happen within the face. They also help people to be expressive in their emotions. Many South Koreans believe that eyes that are dropped down, shaped incorrectly, or lacking in muscle take away from a person’s ability to be expressive and ultimately lessens their ability to succeed in all areas of life.
For this reason, patients usually opt for a double eyelid surgery, one of the most popular procedures done in South Korea and done at Banobagi. A double eyelid pulls the lid back and allows more of the eye to be seen, however, this procedure would be useless if the muscles within the eyelid are weak.
Imagine a patient gets double eyelid surgery, they recover and have that beautiful middle crease on their lid, but their lid still covers a significant amount of their eye; thus, losing a large amount of expressive emotion. Droopy eyelids are not the goal. Now the patient must recover from this procedure and they do not feel that they are given the results they want.

An honest, in-depth consultation is key to a successful procedure. Screenshot of engbanobagi.com

Trust is broken and now we must rectify the situation. This can be done by properly educating the patient during the consultation.
We have to remove the stereotype behind the double eyelid. Every patient will have different possibilities. The ultimate goal is to achieve a beautiful, natural look. Click here to read up on some great questions to ask during consultations.

In Conclusion

Revision surgery is perhaps the most nerve-wracking of all procedures. Having another procedure because of a mistake in a previous one breaks a patient’s trust. Mistakes can always be corrected, but we have to earn back our patient’s trust first.
Our end goal during a blepharoplasty is to give a patient what they want. They want eyes that are natural, expressive, and long-lasting. When we are done with revising any mistakes made in the past, we allow our patients to look toward a brighter future.
