Incisional Double Eyelid Surgery

Incisional Double Eyelid Surgery

Scar? Sausage-shaped Double Eyelids?!

People do not want to look too artificial or unnatural after plastic surgery that they got to improve their concern. Especially, in the case of double eyelid surgery, many people have a vague prejudice that it should be performed using non-incisional method rather than incisional method for a natural result.

Non-incisional method is a method of overlapping the eyelids by making a knot with a thread along the line designed without incising the skin. On the other hand, incisional method is a method of incising the eyelids along the line designed and also removing excessive muscle and fat then fixing remaining muscle and skin together.

Because incision sounds and feels heavy, a lot of people are afraid that it will leave scars or result in sausage-shaped double eyelids. But, there is no significant difference in surgical results of a surgeon with excellent surgical skills, whether it’s incisional or non-incisional. Experts say that incisional method is rather more advantageous when eyelids skin sagging is severe or if there’s a lot of fat.

Dr. Yoojung Lee from Banobagi Plastic Surgery Clinic said that incisional double eyelid surgery has many advantages in being able to make various lines and create brighter and clearer eyes. The biggest misconception is that scars remain with incisional method, but incisional method can also create a result as natural as non-icisional method. Dr. Lee also said determining how good or bad an eye specialist depends on the difference in how naturally the incisional method is performed.

Scars made from the incision will look obvious only right after the surgery, but it gradually fades away over time and become almost inconspicuous after about 6 months. Swelling is most severe for around 2-3 days, and then subsides naturally over time. Returning to daily life is possible after about 3 to 5 days, and the stitches are removed after about 5 to 7 days.

Dr. Lee also said “It is a misconception to think that incisional double eyelid surgery usually leave a thick scar and swelling is difficult to recover because it lasts a longer time. If a specialist with abundant experience performs the surgery, worrying about scarring and longer recovery time can be reduced by making the incision natural enough.” In addition, she advised that if you decide to undergo incisional double eyelid surgery, you must carefully consider the skill and know-how of the surgeon then choose a hospital.

Double eyelid surgery and Ptosis correction should be applied differently depending on eye condition

Double eyelid surgery and Ptosis correction
should be applied differently depending on eye condition

If your eyelids are heavy or droopy, and your eye pupil are covered too much and give you a drowsy look, your eyelids are more likely suits Ptosis correction more. Normally, eye pupil are exposed to 80 ~ 90% or more. You may recognize ptosis issues if the eyes are exposed only 70% or less.

Ptosis is inherently caused by a weak eyelid lifting forces or by acquired factors such as aging and trauma. If you have ptosis, you often use your forehead and forehead muscles to see objects, causing deep wrinkles, and eyelids that cover your pupils, causing vision problems. If left untreated, symptoms such as low vision or astigmatism may also appear, so it is advisable to receive treatment such as eye ptosis correction.

Occasionally, ptosis correction and general double eyelid surgery may be confusing. Ptosis correction may also be done with double eyelid surgery, but the two are quite different surgery. Ptosis is a symptom that covers the eyelids because the muscles of the eye open are weak.

Ptosis correction is a surgery that shortens or removes the levator muscles to raise the eyelids. It is a surgery that improves the root cause of ptosis (eye muscles) and enhances eye opening strength which turning drowsy eyes into clear eyes. Eyelid Ptosis correction can be divided into two types of incisions and non-incisions. Because non-incisional eye correction does not make an incision, there is less scar and it is relatively faster to recover than incision method.

The general double eyelid surgery is basically a surgery as its name, a surgery to make the double eyelids. It is a surgery that connects the structures that open the eyes and the skin and tissue where the double eyelid lines will be formed. If Ptosis correction is more focused on the functional aspect, double eyelid surgery is the cosmetic aspect. However, it is possible to make double eyelids at the same time while performing Ptosis correction even if there were double eyelids, Ptosis correction can be done.

As with other plastic surgeries, eye plastic surgery should not be chosen randomly but following a person's eye shape. In particular, it is important to consult to a specialist first regarding your eye shape as the problem that the expert sees may be different.
