5 Questions To Ask Your Specialist

A curious mindset is the best mindset to have when entering a consultation with a specialist.

The choice to go through a procedure is huge and requires a lot of work beforehand. An important part of any procedure is the consultations. Consultations are the in-depth meetings between a patient and their chosen specialist. This meeting allows our specialist to ‘see’ our patients from every perspective and advise the best plan of action in the future.

The best way for our specialists to work is meeting face to face, not only to see what they will be working with but also to establish that necessary trust between a patient and specialist. A consultation is for more than our specialists. Consultations are also to put our patients at ease.

We want our patients to be fully aware of everything. We want them to ask every question and receive every answer, so that they proceed with an open mind. They are mandatory and done more than once if a patient needs it. Below are five good questions to ask your specialist during a consultation.

1. What Procedure Is Right For Me?

At Banobagi Plastic Surgery Clinic, we perform over 10, 000 procedures. With our arsenal of amazing specialists and all that experience, we can work through all the necessary parts of our patient and figure out what is right for you.

Every patient has a unique body structure, and we need to figure out which procedure adheres to your body. Yes, we take in all that our patient wants, however, we make it obvious to our patients that there is not one proper way to arrive to that destination.

For example, one patient could have the perfect facial contour, from the chin to the cheekbones to the forehead. But the nose of the patient is lacking the right type of definition for the rest of the face. This means the patient can be the right candidate for a rhinoplasty, also known as a nose job.

Perhaps another patient needs a rhinoplasty and after that procedure, they need to round out their face for a fuller more youthful look. This includes more than one procedure for a patient to have. It is all very personal to each patient. We may not know until we have the patient in front of us.

2. Will It Be Painful To Have A Surgical Procedure Done?

During any procedure, our specialists will use anesthesia so that our patients are comfortable and do not feel anything during the procedure. Some procedures can take as short a time as 30 minutes or an hour and 30 minutes or even longer. Within that time, our patient will not feel pain during the procedure. In some cases, our specialist will use general anesthesia.

Of course, postoperative healing is another story. While some ‘growing pains’ are involved, the healing process is necessary and must be done correctly. We have a line of rapid recovery products and prescriptions that specifically target bruising, swelling, and skincare recovery.

Any procedure we do has specific aftercare that we teach to our patients. This will alleviate any pain brought on by the procedure and help create great results. Pain is not completely unavoidable, however, it can be lessened and not experienced for too long a period.

3. Which Specialist Is Right For The Job?

We currently have over 15 specialists and we have over 20 different procedures. To work within our staff, our specialists must continue to educate themselves and have a success rate that is unparalleled. With that being said, we have a specialist for every type of procedure.

Once we can consult with our patients and figure out what they will undergo, we then match them to the best specialist for them. Every specialist must be board certified within their specialized field. It is understandable that any patient does not want to be the first for any specialist.

Our patients also have the option to ask for before and after photos and inquire about the number of procedures a specialist has performed. Our patients should never feel that they can’t learn more about their specialists.

4. How Does One Prepare For The Procedure?

Preparation for a procedure is key. For our patients, this means keeping in touch with their specialist and following any preoperative instructions given to them. Aside from physical preparation, mental preparation is just as important. Perhaps, more important depending the circumstances. Feeling ready for a step-in life is the hardest form of preparation.

This is why asking questions is extremely important. We want our patients to feel comfortable with us. We understand that myths surrounding surgical procedures are negative and generally discouraging; however, those myths are simply untrue. To prepare our patients, we need to give them the correct information and keep them as informed as possible. This is why it is also important for patients to be curious about their procedures.

Patients should not feel that they can’t ask questions. The more questions our patients ask, the more answers we can give, and the more prepared our patients will be. The consultation between our specialists and our patients is probably the most important part of preparation. That is where all communication happens, and every aspect of the procedure is discussed.

5. What If I Do Not Like My Results?

If a patient is not happy with their results, we are happy to help fix the issue. We also offer revision surgery at Banobagi and we make sure that any previous mistakes are taken care of. However, we also advise our patients to wait for the right amount of time before making a decision.

Every procedure needs recovery time. Not only will our patients need to wait for the 30 to 60 days for full results; they will need to take proper care of themselves. We always want to make sure our patients are seeing the true results before they make a decision. This means that they can contact us at any time to be sure their recovery is going along well.

In Conclusion

Never be afraid to ask every question that comes to mind. A consultation is meant to expose every part of the procedure and show that our specialists are more than ready to help our patients take the next step. The questions above are not the only ones a patient can ask.

Whatever comes to mind, bring it up and do not feel embarrassed to do so. This field will never run out of topics to talk about. Better yet, set up a consultation so that our specialists can answer all the questions you may have.
