Ptosis should be improved by eyelid correction surgery, rather than double eyelid surgery

Ptosis should be improved by eyelid correction surgery, rather than double eyelid surgery

If you have symptoms of ptosis, your eyes always look sleepy. In particular, insufficient muscles to lift the eyelids often open eyes with forehead muscles, which can cause wrinkles on the forehead and headaches. In addition, the eyelids cover the pupil, causing poor vision, astigmatism, and amblyopia.

Ptosis may occur due to inherently of weak upper eyelid muscles and may also be caused by acquired factors such as aging, paralysis, and trauma etc. Occasionally, double eyelid surgery can be considered to resolve the ptosis. The ptosis needs to adjust the tension of the muscles through eye correction surgery. Ptosis is a symptom that covers the eyes due to weak muscle strength. If only the double eyelid surgery is performed without having ptosis correction together, functional discomfort would not improve and look of the eyes will likely to be awkward.

Double eyelid surgery is to create a double eyelid that did not exist before. Surgery connects the structures that open the eye and the skin and tissue where the double eyelid line will occur.

On the other hand, eye correction is usually performed when correcting the ptosis or the asymmetrical eyes. In the case of eye correction, the eyelids are partially shortened some of the muscles that lift the eyelids or resected to raise the eyelids. By improving the cause of the ptosis and enhance the strength eye muscle, sleepy looking eyes turn into clearer eyes. In some cases, it may be combined with double eyelid surgery.

Most eyelid corrections have incised directly above the eyelids. Incisional ptosis correction is suitable if your eyelids are loose or if you have severe ptosis. It can also help reduce eyelid fat and muscle mass.

In contrast, non-incisional ptosis correction is surgery to reduce the length of muscles by binding a part of the eye muscles by putting a thread inside the eyelids without incision. The shorter the muscle length, the strength of the eye muscles increases. In particular, non-incision ptosis correction has the advantage of shorter recovery period than incision method. Although there are individual differences, the recovery period is usually about 5 to 7 days, and the surgical site is almost recovered at least one month later.

However, unless you are an expert, it is difficult to know your condition accurately, it is important to consult with your doctor to select the most suitable surgical method and discuss the results after surgery.
