FAQ on
Rhinoplasty
Q1.
I decided to get rhinoplasty.
Is
there any medicine recommended
not to be taken before the surgery?
I take
medicine for atopy.
Sure. You should stop taking medicine
since a week before the operation day. Medicine like adrenal cortex hormone,
aspirin, red ginseng extract, and oriental medicine disturbs hemostasis and
tends to bleed so that must not be taken.
However, ask the clinic if you need
to take it.
Recommendation is for a week, but for
3 days could not affect on surgery.
If you caught a cold, you’d better
take only antibiotics, not aspirin.
Q2.
How does it go with anesthesia in
rhinoplasty?
Standard anesthesia for rhinoplasty
is going with sedation,
like for eyelid surgery.
Eye surgery has to check the line
time to time during surgery,
but not for rhinoplasty.
That makes sedation for rhinoplasty.
If you are afraid of wakening up in
the middle of operation,
general anesthesia can be an answer.
What’s important is to visit the
clinic where anesthesiologists are stationed in!
Q3.
I have runny nose after
rhinoplasty.
I originally have rhinitis…
Is it related to the surgery?
Runny nose without stuffiness has
nothing to do with the operation.
You get stiffness and runny nose if mucous
membrane is swelled,
but it’s unable to make runny nose by nose surgery.
We recommend seeing otolaryngologist,
then.
Q4.
My eyes are far apart.
Could
rhinoplasty help it a little bit?
Enhancement of nose bridge doesn’t bring drastic
change on distance between eyes,
but there would be a slight difference on it,
so it seems to be changed.
Q5.
I plan to get rhinoplasty, but
worry about red nose.
Red nose is generated because of
temperature change by capillary developed on the nose tip.
It is not related to the result of
surgery.
Check your skin type!
Q6.
I have short nose compared to the
face length.
Couldn’t I just let the shortness be
but enhance nose bridge and
nose tip?
If you get enhancement on short nose,
it would look upturned.
You should extend the length using
septal cartilage to improve the length
which suits on your facial ratio.
Q7.
Is it possible to have eye
surgery and rhinoplsty
on the same day?
Sure. It’s recommended to shorten the
whole recovery period, and most of people do.
Q8.
How many times do I have to visit
the clinic?
It depends on the clinic, and twice
for Dr.Lee.
Stitch removal would be placed on 5th
day, and post check-up on 10th day.
Q9.
I have blunt nose tip and my face
is so flat.
I wish to make it dimensional by rhinoplasty.
The areas for making dimensional face
are nose, forehead, chin tip, and midface.
High nose on flat face would give
cubic effect and make face look smaller.

When perform rhinoplasty and revision double eyelid surgery at the same time what type of anesthesia will be used if rhinoplasty is going with sedation. And majority of eye surgery recommended local anesthesia so a doctor can ask a patient to open and close the eyes for measurements of how the eyes close/open/even lids, etc during the surgery?
