Double eyelid surgery and Ptosis correction should be applied differently depending on eye condition

Double eyelid surgery and Ptosis correction
should be applied differently depending on eye condition

If your eyelids are heavy or droopy, and your eye pupil are covered too much and give you a drowsy look, your eyelids are more likely suits Ptosis correction more. Normally, eye pupil are exposed to 80 ~ 90% or more. You may recognize ptosis issues if the eyes are exposed only 70% or less.

Ptosis is inherently caused by a weak eyelid lifting forces or by acquired factors such as aging and trauma. If you have ptosis, you often use your forehead and forehead muscles to see objects, causing deep wrinkles, and eyelids that cover your pupils, causing vision problems. If left untreated, symptoms such as low vision or astigmatism may also appear, so it is advisable to receive treatment such as eye ptosis correction.

Occasionally, ptosis correction and general double eyelid surgery may be confusing. Ptosis correction may also be done with double eyelid surgery, but the two are quite different surgery. Ptosis is a symptom that covers the eyelids because the muscles of the eye open are weak.

Ptosis correction is a surgery that shortens or removes the levator muscles to raise the eyelids. It is a surgery that improves the root cause of ptosis (eye muscles) and enhances eye opening strength which turning drowsy eyes into clear eyes. Eyelid Ptosis correction can be divided into two types of incisions and non-incisions. Because non-incisional eye correction does not make an incision, there is less scar and it is relatively faster to recover than incision method.

The general double eyelid surgery is basically a surgery as its name, a surgery to make the double eyelids. It is a surgery that connects the structures that open the eyes and the skin and tissue where the double eyelid lines will be formed. If Ptosis correction is more focused on the functional aspect, double eyelid surgery is the cosmetic aspect. However, it is possible to make double eyelids at the same time while performing Ptosis correction even if there were double eyelids, Ptosis correction can be done.

As with other plastic surgeries, eye plastic surgery should not be chosen randomly but following a person's eye shape. In particular, it is important to consult to a specialist first regarding your eye shape as the problem that the expert sees may be different.

BANOBAGI X PTOSIS CORRECTION

The shape is the ultimate factor of attractive eyes
As the double-eyelid surgery has been known as the typical cosmetic surgery for the eyes,
it’s recognized as attractive eyes always have double eyelids.
However, eyes with slight crease or monolids are charming enough
even without double eyelids.
The common point they have is that they have ideal eye shape.
Actually, the eye shape affect more than eyelid shape on impressions.
Especially, the location or exposure of pupil set by eye shape are important.

Therefore, if your eye shape does not feature an ideal pupil exposure,
it is better to consider a type of surgery such as Ptosis correction or Canthoplasty
rather than relying on double eyelid surgery.

Especially if the insufficient pupil exposure is due to the lack of eye muscle strength,
a simple correction that strengthens the muscles brings great result
that make the eyes seem bigger and clearer.

Double eyelid surgery and Ptosis correction,
each has different goals

Double eyelid surgery connects the eyelid and muscle,
helping the eyelid be naturally follow the muscle when the eye opens.
However, if the muscle strength itself lacks, the surgery results in an indistinct
and sleepy-looking look even if the eyelids have crease.
Ideal eyes have clearly opened eyelids and appropriately exposed pupils
but Double eyelid surgery simply creates an additional line on the eyelid
while leaving the pupil exposure as it is.

This is where Ptosis correction comes in.
Ptosis correction strengthens the eye-opening muscles themselves
Therefore, it's more advantageous in creating an ideal eye shape.
Therefore, if an eye lacks the muscle strength,
Ptosis correction alone could present more distinct and spacious eye shape
and even create clearer and more attractive double eyelid.
Furthermore, the surgery allows the eyes to open easily,
preventing wrinkles caused by habitual squinting or eyebrow-raising.

This surgery is not a universal solution:
it must be approached with more caution.

As explained previously, Ptosis correction is a specific operation
for those who lack the eye muscle strength.
In other words, it’s unnecessary if the patient has sufficient eye muscle strength.
Therefore, it is important, above all else, to accurately diagnose the condition
the patient’s eyes before any decision has been made.
Ptosis correction is sometimes recommended after simple diagnostics
(e.g. difficulty in eye-opening when pressed above the eyebrows,
wrinkling of the forehead when the eyes are opened,
droopy eyes without double eyelids, small eyes, etc.)
but such methods cannot accurately measure the eye-opening strength
so may lead to an inappropriate surgery.

This is why you should choose a specialist:
who can determine whether Ptosis correction is necessary through
an accurate diagnosis and is able to precisely plan the degree of correction
to avoid excessive or insufficient reconstruction.

Because individual eye muscle strength differs,
Ptosis correction must be done differently as well.
If the lack of muscle strength is significant
and the eyelid covers more than half of the pupil, reshaping through incision works well.
However, if a fair degree of strength is present,
the double-embedding method is possible as well.

The double-embedding method of Ptosis correction
is designed by BANOBAGI senior director, Dr. Park Sunjae.
It effectively and consistently corrects the eye using the dual force of thread strength
and tissue adhesion, all the while avoiding any incision.

Ptosis correction is needed when the eye muscle strength itself is insufficient
and the surgery used to be difficult to complete without making any incision
and with the threads alone: because the threads make it difficult to properly control
the muscle tension and carry the risk of becoming loosened.
However, the double-embedding method properly overcomes such disadvantages
even as it still retains the benefit of Non-incision procedure.

Non-incision surgery minimizes the operating time and the recovery.
In addition, it lessens the post-surgery swelling and pain:
leading to a more inconspicuous and rapid recovery.

Don’t worry about stuffy eyes! Non-incision Double eyelid surgery with ptosis correction effect (Dr. Kim, Harkyoung)

Don’t worry about stuffy eyes!
Non-incision Double eyelid surgery
with ptosis correction effect
(Dr. Kim, Harkyoung)

Eyes appearance varies by size, shape, and the exposure of the pupil
play an important role differentiating impression and the beauty standard.

This is because it determines the strong impression, good impression
and the sophisticated impression
depending on the appearance of the eyes.

However, sometimes there are some people who don’t know exactly whether to do double eyelid surgery or eye ptosis correction based on their personal condition.

For example, if you have eyelid sagging symptoms,
but you have a normal eyelid surgery,
the eyes are still look dull and you need to do revision surgery.
If you have ptosis/sagging symptoms, eye ptosis correction surgery should be done.

Ptosis is a state where the muscle strength of the upper eye is weak,
so the eyelid is lowered and the eyelid fissure is become smaller.
We can consider it as congenital cases which is a condition that caused by congenital, acquired causes, where the force of the eyelid lifting muscle is weak from birth.

This can also caused by trauma or aging progresses when the strength of the eyelid muscles weakens.

If you have ptosis,
your eyes would feel heavy and less clear when you open your eyes fully.
Also, because the eyes are saggy or droopy and the eyes are small,
they have sleepy and tired impression.
Then that person usually uses their forehead muscles to lift the eyelids and either hurts his/her eyes or opens the jaws to see things as a habit.

Since both pupils are covered, it is difficult to obtain one’s eye vision, and vision problems such as astigmatism and amblyopia can occur.

Ptosis can be treated through eye ptosis correction surgery by fixing the muscles.
Eye ptosis correction surgery can be divided into two methods
which are incision and non-incision.

Most patients prefer Non-incision correction
since it leaves no scar, faster recovery time and it doesn’t incise the skin compare to incision method.

Non-incision with ptosis correction surgery is a method of making small holes on the eyelid and correcting the eyelid lift strength.
It can be applied when the symptoms of ptosis are insignificant, when the eyes fat is little, or when the sagginess is weak.

Above all, the effect can be seen as much as the incision method,
but recovery time to daily life is quicker
and the natural effect after surgery is the advantages.

Although the recovery period is depend on individual, it usually takes 5-7 days, and the surgical swelling recovery takes about a month at the most.

For those patients who hesitate because of their busy routine at work could consider non-incision double eyelid surgery with ptosis correction as a suitable alternative
since it has less swelling and faster recovery time.

Banobagi Plastic Surgery, Dr. Kim, Harkyoung said,
"Non incision with ptosis correction surgery is a new concept of correction treatment that doesn’t get loose easily also last semi-permanently by making a double knot on both the muscles and make double eyelids to open the eyes without incision.

However, the diagnosis is the most important
because each person’s skin tissue condition, muscles condition, and desired shape are different.
Therefore, since Non incision double eyelid surgery with ptosis correction requires higher level of skills than general double eyelid surgery,
you should consult with a specialist
who has plenty experiences and anatomical knowledge."

What is the difference between ptosis correction and double eyelid surgery?

What is the difference between

ptosis correction and double eyelid surgery?

Non-incisional, double embedding non-incisional, incisional, partial incisional, epicanthoplasty, lateral epicanthoplasty, ptosis correction…

There are fairly many kinds of surgery which are all methods of eye surgery.

Many sorts of ways exist just to improve eyes.

Let’s talk about ptosis correction today!

The basic form of double eyelid surgery is non-incisional or incisional method
which make eyes bigger and clearer.

What’s ptosis?
It means the saggy upper eyelids,
and people with it open their eyes using also the forehead muscle.

It’s usually told ptosis
when upper side of pupils are covered by eyelids
even after the eyes are fully open.

If you have to use forehead muscle
that eyes are not widely open just with using eyelids,
that’s the typical symptom of ptosis.

Maybe the one with ptosis might not feel discomfort that much,
but eyes with pupils covered by eyelids always look sleepy, exhausted, and sad.

A lot of people may think
double eyelid surgery would be the solution for this.

The answer is NO!

No matter what surgery it is,
finding the basic cause and resolving it instead of simple treatments
lead to steady beautifulness!

In the case of ptosis,
it’s the matter of the muscle helping opening eyes,
which is called ‘muscle levator palpebrae superioris’,
so ptosis correction which controls tension of this muscle is required.

Just making lines through double eyelid surgery doesn’t solve this muscle problem,
so ptosis correction is essential.

Then, let’s get in details now.
There is non-incisional ptosis correction
as well as incisional ptosis correction.

As you can recognize from the name,
incisional ptosis correction is
to incise skin and correct the eyelid lines.
This is for a lot droopy eyelids which make heavy ptosis.

 What is non-incisional ptosis correction?

It’s to control the tension of muscle through very small holes
as for double embedding method or partial incisional one,
for clearer eye shape even though muscle tension is not weak.

Both of ptosis correction and double eyelid surgery can be done together

depending on individuals.

Now, do you understand the difference

of ptosis correction and double eyelid surgery?
