Do you want to visualize a cosmetic procedure from another patient’s perspective before going through it yourself?
You have come to the right place! Today we are going to let you in on a patient’s story. She had a life-changing experience after her rhinoplasty and liposuction procedure. Every day we hear stories of how patients believe that physical attributes can make a world of a difference when it comes to living in full confidence. Together we get to imagine the joyous feeling of a patient walking out of their house with their chin held high, shoulders back, and loving themselves for they are. Let us share this rewarding moment. Although we are all not born to be perfect, luckily withskilled surgeons, we can be one step closer to looking and feeling our best. Let’s embark into how our patient began her life-changing journey.
The Patient’s Life Before Surgery
Our lovely patient is a model that was lacking confidence in herself. It is normal to begin to develop insecurities about how we look physically as we grow older. She, in particular, did not like her nose. At a young age, she had a cute, little nose, but as she developed into a teen it began to grow. She wanted to getrhinoplastyto rid of the hump on the bridge of her nose and draw less attention from the center of her face.
Her modeling agent never considered her particularly slim with the way her body contours, just a healthy weight. She truly enjoyed her life behind a camera and wanted to work towards building her appearance so she can be happy with the way she looked. We can all agree that when we want to drop a few pounds, we begin to eat less but still, the weight on the scale never drops. When posing for swimwear or lingerie campaigns, she felt insecure in her own body.
Photographers taking the picture would tell her that imperfections will be fixed with photoshop. That just reminded her she was not pretty enough. She was tired of being known as a ‘real-sized’ model which is when she decided to endureliposuction. Our patient wanted to feel confident to be a part of the industry but most importantly, she was ready to finally be confident in her own skin. The change was not motivated by others. When we want to make a difference, change is driven by a personal goal. Rhinoplasty and liposuction will be able to provide her confidence in the body she would be living in.
Cosmetic Surgery Consultation
During her consultation with Banobagi, we welcomed our patient with our warm and inviting staff. She changed into a turquoise gown to prepare for before photos. You may be quite nervous about certain areas of your body like most patients are, but who wouldn’t be. As she met with the plastic surgeon, he was able to recommend the right surgeries for her body type and facial structure.
The doctor discussed liposuction techniques and the amount of fat that was going to be removed. She built a strong relationship with him and even shared a few laughs. Building a relationship with our patients is one of the many things we want to achieve in hopes that our patients will walk out of the consultation feeling safe in our hands. At this point, our patient was excited for surgery and ready to see changes in her body.
“I usually expect surgeons to be really dry, but he was really friendly and had a laugh with me, so I felt very happy to let him operate on me. I had consultations at lots of different clinics before, and Banobagi was definitely the best because the staff are so welcoming, and the doctors are very well qualified and experienced”. -Banobagi Patient
The Day of Surgery
When our patient arrives on surgery day, our goal is to make you feel as relaxed as possible. We can only imagine the number of nerves going through your body. To make our patient feel more comfortable, we filled the room with English speaking staff to help translate the rhinoplasty and liposuction procedure. We had our patient clean her mouth and face thoroughly and get changed before entering thesurgery room.
Rhinoplasty

The patient stayed in the hospital for one night after the procedure was completed. Due to our highly trained staff, she was able to have a quick recovery. Before she left home we supplied her with kits to wash her wounds and a face mask to disguise the bandages on her nose if she were to go outside. She was on bed rest for the first few days. We encouraged her to take frequent walks to reduce the swelling faster. When her nose cast came off, she felt completely confident to send a photo of her nose without photoshop. She was so excited when she saw her nose so straight for the first time after her nose job. Within 5 days after surgery, she went out to the shops to try on clothes. Even with post-surgery bruising, she already felt so much more attractive. She was able to recognize the significant size her thighs and abdomen slimmed down too.
One Month Post Surgery
The patient has returned back to her hometown one month post surgery with minimal swelling. She was ready to get back on her feet and return to work and normal activities. Since the surgery, she has gained a new found confidence towards her modeling career. She no longer feels the need to photoshop her photos due to the significant body fat loss. The surgery has given her motivation to start eating right and working out tomaintain the hourglass figure after liposuction. Due to her new and improved body, nobody questions her when she proudly states she’s a professional model.
“I’ve been really honest with my friends and family about my surgery. The most common thing they say is “it doesn’t look like you’ve had surgery” which I actually take as a really big compliment because I know my results are very natural looking.” -Banobagi Patient
The Patient’s Life After Surgery
Our patient came in seeking procedures to help modify aspects of her body that made her lack confidence with the way she looked. Our skilled surgeons were able to make adjustments in the features of her face and body to create the appearance she wanted to be seen in through rhinoplasty and liposuction. We are proud to be able to share her plastic surgery journey through her treated areas and successfully say that she is overjoyed with the new and improved version of herself. Every patient has a story to share, stay posted to get more insights on the behind the scenes patient experience with Banobagi.

Oh answers to those questions that consumers are curious about>
Dr. Changhyun Oh from Banobagi Plastic Surgery Clinic
Cheekbones are reduced by ‘cutting the cheekbones’?
In the
past, parts of the cheekbones were cut or shaved to reduce in some cases. However,
these methods are rarely used these days because of the limitation of amount or
shape that can be reduced. Recently, the method of fixing the cheekbones after
moving them to a new position and relocating is mainly used.
Facial skin might sag after face contouring surgery?
Face
contouring surgery does not make the skin of the face unconditionally sag. It will
be okay if you are younger and have good skin elasticity. However, if you are
old or have poor skin elasticity, or if you have a lot of fat on your face even
though you are young, you may experience little sagging. In those cases, minimizing
the desquamation when performing the surgery is proper solution and also lifting
treatment after surgery to improve elasticity are considerable.
The more bones cut, the smaller your face?
All face
contouring surgery is not related to the amount of bones cut for smaller face
or more effective result. If you cut more of the bones, it simply makes the
bones smaller. There are soft tissues such as skin, fat, and muscles
surrounding the bones, so surgery should be performed after deriving how much
bone to be removed taking into account the maximum capacity that the soft
tissues can react to. Only that way, the most suitable change for individual
condition and safe & satisfactory surgical result can be achieved.
Is revision possible after face contouring surgery?
Many
people think that revision is impossible after first face contouring surgery
because it is an operation treating the bone. Face contouring surgery can be re-operated
like other plastic surgery under the premise that there is no special
abnormality such as inflammation at the surgical site. In the case of revision,
the surgical goal should be set based on more precise and accurate diagnosis
than the first operation. In particular, more careful approach and the
experience of the surgeon through many revision cases are essential because the
difficulty of the revision is high.
There are many people who are worried about
the fat and dark circles under their eyes. From the mid-20s, our skin begins to
age around the eyes, and when we reach our 30s, the aging speed increases, so
we can feel it much faster. In particular, it is the fat under the eyes that is
bumpy or bulging and makes you look tired and old. As the lower eyelid tissue
that covers the under eye loosens, the elasticity of the skin decreases and the
power to support the fat under the eyes decreases, making the fat under the
eyes looks more visible.
In the case of congenital fat mass, this
phenomenon also occurs in younger people. In addition, people with thin skin
may have dark circles with dark blue glow as thick blood vessels are visible
under their eyes.
Transconjunctival fat reposition is the
method to improve the condition. It rearranges the bumpy fat to flatten it
above the bone of the lower eyelids. This method is a highly preferred
operation since the skin incision is not visible and the procedure is
relatively simple compared to other operation.
However, it is important to know the precautions
and side effects of the surgery. Occasionally, the under eye condition looks
rather hollow, there’s still left bulging fat, and wrinkles become more severe
even after transconjunctival fat reposition.
Dr. Hyuntaek Lee, Eye&Nose Specialist
BANOBAGI PLASTIC SURGERY CLINIC
Transconjunctival fat reposition is a
principle of filling ligaments of the tear troughs (the part that is hollowed
like a furrow under the eyes) using the fat under eye eyes. If the fat under
the eyes, which is used as this method, is excessive, bulging may remain after
surgery. In this case, there are methods to remove the remaining fat through
revision or to strengthen the orbital septum, which serves as a support so that
the fat under the eyes does not come out.
Conversely, if the transconjunctival fat
reposition is overcorrected, revision can be performed depending on the
condition, and the hollow parts can be filled with autologous fat or filler. Above
all, to prevent such side effects, whether there is a fat bag under the eye
before surgery to know if it is necessary to remove or rearrange the fat,
whether there is only sagging skin or muscle without the fat, whether it can be
improved through an incision inside of the lower eyelids, and whether skin or
tissues should be excised together as well as fat reposition should be
carefully checked with a specialist.
Also, since transconjunctival fat
reposition is not a surgery to remove wrinkles around the eyes, lower
blepharoplasty or a more suitable procedure should be considered to improve the
wrinkles.
Among patients considering facial
contouring surgery or two-jaw surgery, they often wonder if the fixing pins
used during surgery should be removed.
Facial contouring surgery can be roughly
divided into two types. The first is a bone shaving and the other is a bone
shaving and moving method.
For surgery to shave bones like square jaw
reduction, fixing pins are not used, but most of the surgery that requires moving
bones, such as cheekbone reduction and chin-tip surgery, uses fixing pins. The
fixing pin is to fix the bones moved after surgery so that they are well fused
in the changed position.
How well the bones adhere determines the
outcome of the surgery. Although it is important to trim the bones well,
healing the bones is also a very important process in facial contouring. The
bones fixed with a fixing pin go through the process of adhesion over about 3
months.
The reason why patients usually want to
remove the fixing pin is that they are reluctant to have foreign objects in the
body from a psychological point of view, and that they may feel embarrassed to
see the fixing pin on the X-ray. However, it is not necessary to remove the
fixing pin for health reasons. The fixing pin is usually made of a metal
component called titanium, and it is a safe material that is commonly used in
other surgical fields such as dental implant surgery and cardiac stand surgery
as well as face contouring surgery. Also, the pin is non-magnetic and cannot be
detected by a metal detector.
For this reason, some use a melting pin,
but the melting pin has a disadvantage in that the strength is weaker than that
of titanium. If the thickness of the melting pin is thickened to have similar
strength to the titanium pin, it may be difficult to manipulate it during
surgery. That said, it is difficult to expect a highly complete surgery.
However, if you do not like or have a
burden to see the fixing pin on the X-ray during dental treatment, you can
completely remove it through pin removal surgery. Occasionally, if a long time
elapses after face contouring surgery, the bone may be covered over the fixed
pins. In this case, the pin may not be 100% removed. Therefore, if you
absolutely want to remove the fixing pin, it is the best timing to get it done from
3-6 months to 1 year after surgery that is the period of the bones adhere.
Dr. Chang Hyun Oh from Banobagi Plastic
Surgery Clinic said, “Since fixing pin removal surgery also involves touching
the bones, a specialist with extensive clinical experience in facial bone
surgery should be selected. In addition, the safety system, as well as whether
an anesthesiologist resides in the hospital, and whether 1:1 dedicated
anesthesia is possible must be checked.”
Changes due to aging occur simultaneously
from the bones to the skin. The changes that take place inside are just
invisible. There are many causes of visible wrinkles and sagginess, and the most
well-known reasons are changes in the volume of the face and sagginess caused
by gravity. As we get older, the skin loses its elasticity, just like the wind
slowly falls out of a balloon. In addition, as the skin is pulled down by
gravity, the nasolabial folds deepen and a grumpy look appears.
The basic of anti-aging is to fill the hollow
parts through fat graft or filler and improve the sagging parts through lifting.
Botox is also used to prevent more wrinkles around the eyes, brows, and
forehead where there is a lot of movement. The main cause of aging is different
for each part, so accurate diagnosis is very important.
Dr. Jaesang Barn from Banobagi Plastic
Surgery Clinic said “Lifting includes procedures using ultrasound or high
frequency, such as Ulthera and Thermage, thread lifting, and incision lifting. Each
method has clear effects, limitations, advantages and disadvantages. In order
to compensate for the shortcomings and maximize the effect, several procedures
are performed together and differently approached like mini lifting.”
Thread lifting has the advantage of being
relatively simple and quick recovery without incision. However, without
considering the shape of the face and the aging status, thread lifting itself
will not be effective. For example, if the cheekbones are wide and the chin is
short, face may look wide when the tissue is pulled with a thread because the
sagging flesh will be pushed upward to the cheekbones. Moreover, if there's also
buccal fat sagging, thread lifting will result rather awkward look than before.
In this case, buccal fat removal and fat graft to the short chin will improve the
proportion of the face and also lifting effect.
Dr. Barn also said “Liposuction and fat
graft do not require separate incision and suture, and can be performed
simultaneously with thread lifting. However, if the skin is thin or fat is excessively
extracted from a certain small part, skin may become uneven. Therefore, it is recommended
to consult with a plastic surgeon who has many clinical experience and can accurately
diagnose patient's condition.”
The breast augmentation surgery is
performed to enlarge the breasts with the ideal size that one dreamed of.
However, since it is not easy to predict specific outcomes after surgery and
individual satisfactory criteria differs, breast augmentation specialists say that careful
selection of the size is necessary during the procedure.
In particular, in the case of the most
sensitive part which is breast size, the feeling and satisfaction of each
person may be different even if an implant of the same size is inserted to
enlarge it. Because height, weight, and chest size are different for each
person, some people may feel small or large when the same size of implant is
inserted.
Therefore, it is very important to perform
various size measurements with a specialist before surgery and figure out what
you want together. Specialists advise that first you should consult your
desired breast size, shape, and purpose of surgery and also compare the types
and sizes of numerous implants, then choose the most ideal size within a safe
range.
Even if there is a size you want, the range
of recommended sizes may be different as each person has different body types
and physical conditions. Nevertheless, if you make an unreasonable choice, the
chances of experiencing side effects increase, as well as the possibility that
the patient herself feels a burden on the surgical results.
Dr. Jaesang Barn from Banobagi Plastic
Surgery Clinic said “The size selection depends on your choice, but you should
discuss it sufficiently with the experienced specialist. The satisfaction of
the surgery can be greatly influenced by sharing this with the specialist who
can guide you to the safest surgery.”
It was found that 58.5% of those who
experienced plastic surgery had it in winter. Seven out of 10 people think
winter as a good season for plastic surgery.
On the 6th of December, 2020,
Banobagi Plastic Surgery Clinic unveiled the results of a survey conducted on
214 men and women in their 10s to 60s or older. According to the recognition of
the correlation between plastic surgery and seasons among the respondents in
the survey, 81.3% said that seasons influence the choice of when to get plastic
surgery. 71.2% of the respondents cited winter as the best season for plastic
surgery. Then 22.4% in autumn, 5.8% in spring, and 0.6% in summer.
71.8% of people in their twenties cited
winter as the best season for plastic surgery. In their 30s, the response rate
was as high as 74%. For those in their 40s, 50s, and 60s or older, 69%, 77.8%,
and 66.7%, respectively, chose winter as the best season for plastic surgery.
The reason why winter was chosen as a good
season for plastic surgery was because the wound seems to heal well, ranking
first with 46.77%. The reasons described were ‘because I can take advantage of
the winter vacation before enrollment and classes, and the Lunar New Year
holidays' ranked 2nd with 37.9%, and 'because I could cover my face with a hat
and a scarf' ranked 3rd with 12.9%.
In fact, there were many cases of choosing
winter when undergoing a plastic surgery. To the question “Which season did you
have plastic surgery(multiple responses)” targeting those who have experienced
plastic surgery(26.2% of respondents), the answer of “winter” was the most at
58.5%. Spring was 19.5%, and summer and autumn were 11%.
Dr. Jaesang Barn from Banobagi Plastic Surgery Clinic said, “It was interesting to find out that more people than I thought had seasons in mind for plastic surgery. Each individual may have a preferred season, but there are no cases where the climate or temperature affects the procedure and outcome of the surgery.”
